Budokai Tournament IX - Sign Up Thread

[Sir Laguna]

Metal Soldier took Budokai Tournament VIII by storm before coming out on top in a fierce battle with Red that went right down to the wire. When the dust settled on the Supreme Kai's World, Metal Soldier stood alone. With that, he was crowned the Eigtht Budokai Tournament Champion.

Now it's your turn.

38 spots are open for the latest installment in the long history of the Budokai Tournament which first saw the light of day on the 20th of July, 2003.

The Rules

Obviously, the point of this tournament is to pick a character from the Budokai 3 roster, select whatever capsules you feel will take it to victory and post your set-up here. You, along with your character, will then battle it out with other entrants in order to determine the new champion.

Several capsules are not permitted for tournament use. They are listed below for your benefit. Any capsule not on this list is freely useable in any tournament set-up.

These capsules are banned in order to preserve competition and allow entrants full diversity in choosing their skills rather than having to be forced to equip certain capsules to keep with the playing field.

All matches are to be played at a random arena. The only exception is the World Tournament stage which is still not sufficently safe for such a tournament to be conducted in.

Each character will start off with the tournament's standard of 3000 HP.

Once all entrants have been confirmed, the top ranked entrants in the All Time Rankings shall be seeded in their groups as to avoid being pitted against each other in the opening rounds. This is done to preserve quality of competition.

All 38 characters in DBZ Budokai 3 are available for selection in Budokai Tournament IX. If a character is already taken, you CANNOT use it yourself. The tournament runs on a strict one user per character set-up which will not be compramised for anyone.

Whenever you feel you have a good character set-up, reserve your character by posting in this thread and either post your set-up here or PM it to myself. (I would prefer it if you PM'ed it but it's your choice)

Now, for a response to a question I didn't notice until now from one dbzfanatic_6.

Just a question but why are Fusion capsules banned in the tournament?

Several reasons.




Fusion Capsules have an incredibly low chance of being used in battle.
They serve as "Semi-Breakthroughs". They give a character access to a number of skills without having to equip those capsules.
They're nigh-on useless in a tournament setting anyway. The mediocre Attack boost from a fusion pales in comparison to anything anyone can throw together with a little brains.
Choosing a Fusion capsule that fills up 7 slots takes no skill. The Tournament is to test your ability to create a strong character not to throw a single capsule down and hope that the slim chance of your character getting a 15% attack boost comes through.

I'm curious, how much life do you give the characters and what level do they fight at? I would expect the hardest difficulty but for the life.. I don't know. Like how many bars.

Three bars. Or 3000 HP as I would refer to it.

The reason for that is because I have no desire to type a match report for a 20 minute match at seven bars (7000 HP) each. The CPU level would naturally be Very Hard to have both fighters in a match participating with their AI at an optimum level.

Currently we have 25 entries and as those who have followed the tournaments know, that is by far the largest amount of entrants ever witnessed at a Budokai Tournament. However, due to my completist nature and my desire to have an ordered, structured, tournament lay-out, I will be hoping to get a grand total of, oh yes, 32 entrants.

While these sign-ups might be dragged out to see if that is possible, I will not allow it to drag it beyond the end of this week. If we don't have 32 entrants by then... well, I'll have to make do with what we have.

Usually, the tournament only hosts 16 characters so a lot quicker than this. As of now, only 3 more entrants are needed and we are done with the sign-ups. So if people could strangle their friends and force them to sign-up, that would be neat.

I can count on Blitzkrieg, for example, to submit his capsules in time.

I can also assume, with less certainty, that SS4_Gogeta will eventually get around to it.

MysticSaiyan89, of course, failed to submit his capsules in time for the last tournament and so was removed.

So, if only one of the three fail to send me their capsules, I shall simply enter in their place as the Great Saiyaman.

If two fail to enter, then I shall enter and I will also contact one of the few regulars who didn't sign up for this one (jebo32, Ecko, TechnoGoku etc.) and see if they are willing to fill the gap.

So it's somewhat luck? I mean, with the right capsules, the character has a good chance, but what choices it makes is all up to the CPU...so it's somewhat luck. All I hope is that my Videl does somewhat good.
