The 50 Greatest

Below are some would-be frequently asked questions about the 50 Greatest.

-

Q1: What is the 50 Greatest?
A: A massive event that deides the forum majority in certain categories.

Q2: What are the Categories?

A: The categories are as follows:- Filmography
- Cartoon / Japanese Animation
- Musical Arts / Musical Bands
- Video Games
- Food
- More coming soon (tentative)

Q3: How will the voting work?
A: Each member participating will post his/her votes in the topic. You are required to post at least 10 votes in each category (after the topic has been posted). The maximum number of votes you can give is 20.

Oh right I just noticed the other one. I have one question and one suggestion. The question is, why is there a 10 item minimum? I might not feel like coming up with 10 of something even though I have 5 good ones.

The suggestion is why don't we turn this into a vote-off? Nominations could take place as you outlined, except the 10-20 of them with the most votes would go on to the vote-off, meaning a topic would be made and people would vote for who to keep and who to boot. I know those can take forever, but a time-limit could be set. That way it's more interactive.

well i will try to answer but Flugigo might be able to describe it a bit better later

I picked 10 because of a number of reasons:

- Normally everyone can name at least 10 films or items on the list, it is not exactly hard, you just have to think of the films you enjoyed the most. Granted not many people enjoy many films released now-a-days, but there has to be at least 10, i might allow on occasions a person to summit 5.

- Another reason i chose 10, is currently the forum activity, because recently not many people are on and actually posting, we have about 30 to 40 regulars who post (this is from what i have seen), the others just look around and never get involved, maybe they do in the odd chat and in insane but then they just vanish, and sometimes never come back

- Also with 10 votes, we are able to get a lot more variety from the regular members, instead of 5 votes, but the problem is that the votes would proberly go to Matrix, Lord of the Rings etc all the time. Which in all honestly is the proberly the truth

Your suggestion is good, if Flugigo wants to add it i would be happy with it, but currently in my eyes, it would be a waste in the actual voting. This voting system was actually meant to determine a winner, not just throw it in with the top 10, and have a kind of knock out stages to determine another winner, when the winner is already decided. But I see the advantages of this and it could be good idea, Flugigo will have to make the final decision as i am not good at determining these add-on voting things are a good idea or bad

But thanks for your comments

Why do we have to give our votes via PM? I know it doesn’t seem like a big effort to PM someone, but I bet half the people on here won’t bother because of it, where as if members just posted their votes in the relevant thread you’d have a lot more participation.

Another valid point, true if people posted there would be more participation, but the thing about this voting system is that this doesn't go one sided or "go with the flow" of what people are voting, and then this may turn into lets vote what he voted for. Granted it would change at about number 5 but i want people to vote for their favourite and not get persuaded by someone elses number 1 etc

but i will let Flugigo decide as again, as i am not good at determining these add-on voting things are a good idea or bad. And Flugigo has expierence with these voing systems and knows what's best

Well the thing about doing it privately is that there is a high chance that people will name random movies/items left and right, and the winner winning with like 5 votes. If you actually make them pick from a list, it would make more sense to me. Though if you want, you can declare a winner through private first.

The 50 Greatest Films Results will be up soon, but there has been a change in the rule, because the participation in this was low but we still made it to 50, i changed the rule so that you can now post in each of the topics, when they are made. It seemed that when no-one posted in either topic this place died, and was forgot.

I might redo The 50 greatest films if the participation picks up
