View Full Version : 24/7 FUNimation TV

It seems that some people's dreams may come true after all. Here's the report:

<blockquote>"FUNimation is always looking for new ways of providing Anime to the fans. We are researching the viability of a 24-hour, 7-days a week TV channel focusing on Uncut, English dubbed Anime, available as an additional channel to your current basic satellite or cable package. This channel would include a wide breadth of great anime such as Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Kiddy Grade, Tenchi Muyo GXP, Case Closed, Fruits Basket, Blue Gender, and much more including titles from other production companies. "</blockquote>As you can see, FUNimation is evaluating the possibility of having a 24/7 TV channel with nothing but FUNi (and possibly other companies') anime on it. If you want to increase the chances of this coming true, send your feedback to Mr Fukunaga (projecttv@funimation.com) (FUNimation's President), or take this survey (http://www.dragonballz.com/survey.cfm).

Oh, yeah I've heard of this idea. It sounds great, especially since it has some pretty good shows on it (Case Closed and Fruits Basket come to mind.) I took the survey, here's hoping it'll happen.

EDIT// The e-mail link doesn't work.

try it this way then.

Hey, this sounds pretty cool I guess. If its unedited, then Id definately be watching it. Alot. Go take that survey if you havent, its real short and easy.

Sounds good, but Funi doesn't really have enough material to fill 24 hours, so some 3rd-party stuff would be necessary.
However, this is still Gen Fukunaga, so I'm kinda wary.

I'd be interested in it. The fact that Uncut episode will be played is what attracts me the most

I would agree with Yu Yu. all the way with unedited anime. But Funimation does have some good stuff. But not to fill 24 hours worth. Maybe if the did anime movies also then that would work.

I just hope they play alot of anime I'm wanting to see, like FLCL, Trigun, Fushigi Yuugi, the rest of Love Hina, KOR(if it is dubbed in english), and others that I don't know how to spell.

lets just hope they have other animes besides what Funi did. Otherwise everyone would get sick of it.

Drew

Yeah, they don't have enough animes dubbed themselves to play for 24 hours. They are going to need a variety, but I think it's a really great idea. They should probably take requests for animes or something and hope the companies who did dub them over will let them play it

Saruki
08-08-2004, 11:30 PM
If they were smart they would have some in Jap. also just to make things more worthwhile, and to fill 24 hours.

Flugigo

I assume occasionally, they'll have 'All-Dbz' or 'All-YuYu Hakuusho' days.

Drew
08-08-2004, 11:33 PM
Yeah, and they could have play a few anime movies and OVA's too, like "Grave of the Fireflies" and the Samauri X collection.

Saruki
08-08-2004, 11:33 PM
But that would get old after a while. They would have to do that once a month or every three months. Not everyweek. Man that would be hard to just handle.

KV
08-08-2004, 11:37 PM
hmm....this would be nice, and as many have said before...there won't be enough material to make this channel a real success. I am looking forward to seeing the uncut episodes of all these shows and obviously they could show shows that have 100 episodes + like YYH or DB/Z/GT or case closed (which suprisingly has 360+ episodes) all day....
well, I took the survey and hopefully it'll come through.

That would make it great. And it would be all uncut.

...wait don't they have to have a reasonable amount of under PG-13 animes...
Otherwise it wouldn't pass. Unless it was on Dig. Cable or Sat.

KV

It'll probly be one of those "call your cable provider", channels.

I just hope it's available with comcast which is what I have....

Well my parents have Dig, and I have reg.

So ya it better be on Comcast.

Drew

Well, I think they would be able to show some of the more bloody animes, like Hellsing, for a more mature audience since it's animation. But something like Ninja Scroll would be a no since it has nudity, unless they did have it on one of those "call your cable provider" channels like Kuramavegeta said.

Oh, and I just though of this. To help make profits, they could advertise and sell DVD box sets of animes and other stuff like OVC does or something. And showing an AMV here and there would be pretty cool too.

KV
08-09-2004, 12:08 AM
nudity doesn't matter as long as it isn't a regular TV channel. So ninja scroll could be shown.
I'll bet they show YYH, DBZ and case closed the most since they have the bigger audience and have a lot of epsiodes. But DBZ won't go to far since the uncut episodes aren't that brutal.

then you haven't seen most of them. Some are edited out for a reason. There should be over 300 episodes, not 276 or something like that.

DBZ is no where near YYH in brutalness. DBZ is really the least violent funimation show...I've seen all the uncut eps.....I ordered the japaneese versions....they were okay.

Actually, there are 296 DBZ episodes.

Yeah, I preferred it when YYH was on adult swim.

Anyone else have Cox Digital Cable?

Well unless they're planning on reruns 24/7 they will. Plus since it's uncensored they might as well get other providers in.

Gohi

The only other company Funi works with is 4Kids and they're only releasing YGo and Shaman King uncut.

Plus, you treated it like a fact. =D

Onigex
08-09-2004, 03:34 PM
I see your point. And eww.... they better have Pioneer and Ocean Dub

Gohi
08-09-2004, 03:38 PM
Pioneer/Geneon and Funimation aren't that close. Ever since Funimation fought for the rights for the 1st 53 eps of DBZ they haven't made any "Negotiations" with them.

Maybe they can get Viz.

Ocean is a group of voice actors not a dubbing company.

Onigex
08-09-2004, 03:43 PM
Well Ocean should make a company man... plus they'd make a lot of dinero if they did...

Gohi
08-09-2004, 03:44 PM
Well, they'd have to hire lots of extra people and that would cost lots of money, and Ocean isn't exactly loaded.

Seraph
08-09-2004, 03:46 PM
Ocean is a part of Blue Water productions, who made a very awful DBGT dub for the UK and they're the ones behind X-Men Evolution, Transformers Armada and such. But a channel full of FUNi DBZ... eurgh.

Gohi
08-09-2004, 03:48 PM
I thought that Ocean owned "Blue Water".

Seraph
08-09-2004, 03:48 PM
Other way round from what I heard. Reason why Ocean didn't do DBGT for us mean some random group of godawful actors. The old source being someone who pratically stalked Brian Drummond.

Gohi
08-09-2004, 03:50 PM
Really? Now, I coulda sworn that there was a report saying that Ocean let one of their smaller, low-budget voice groups do DBGT because it would be easier that way or something.

Check DBZOA, they'll surely have the info.

Seraph
08-09-2004, 03:53 PM
I could be wrong. It was a year or so I read the boards about it. Either way, a day of DBZ by FUNi would drive me insane.

Onigex
08-09-2004, 03:58 PM
They should redub it again. And stop using "Darn, Blast it all!, *insert random constipated noises*, and such. Like Yu YU was dubbed alright and so was Case Closed and Fruit's Basket. They're getting better but they really need to re dub that...

Gohi
08-09-2004, 04:07 PM
Naw, they don't. They made enough money on that crappy series already.

Fruits Basket is actually one of the best dubs I've ever seen.

Onigex
08-09-2004, 04:08 PM
You I already have three 3 DVDs of it. It is awesome.

Gohi
08-09-2004, 04:09 PM
I've seen a lot of Case Closed as well. My only problem is the fact that they "americanized the names, minus Conan.

Joey
08-09-2004, 04:57 PM
Well, if it's gonna be uncut anime dubs, like Detective Conan(which is Cased Closed, a new favorate anime for me), then it's fine with me.

Onigex

Just tape it with a VHS.

Joey
08-09-2004, 05:18 PM
or if you have a DVD recorder.

And I have a comment to XZ about DBZSC in particular. Having ads on your site helps out I know, but having popups just turns away visitors. Maybe you should ditch the popups.

Onigex

Joey
08-09-2004, 05:37 PM
Well, back on subject, I'm guessing this channel wouldn't be on basic cable? I'm too poor to afford digital or satelite.

Gohi

If enough people fill out the survey with Basic Cable it could be.
