Or you could just practice more?

I'm a point and find typer, but I can get up to 90 GWAM (gross words per minute) that way.

Its just that I never look at what I type so I always screw up.

I still hate keyboards in general though.

learn to fucking type, then.

I typed this without looking at the keyboard.

I had 3 errors that I fixed, without looking, mind you.

exactly. There's classes for these things. I'm pretty much on the same level as Flug, if what he says is true.

Flugigo

It is. Although I do normally look at the keyboard, since I'm faster.

I never went to a class though. When you're on the computer as much as me naturally, you learn where the buttons are.

I cant type correctly with my right hand it goes all over the place, however my left hand is a typing beast.

I typed this entire post without looking. I can also read things off of a peice of paper and type the entire thing usually without errors.

I normally only have a single glance at the keyboard before I type, maybe a few quick looks if its a long post.

It varies on whether or not I look at the keyboard. Even if I do I'm not really looking for buttons it just seems to help guide my hands. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm used to hitting backspace so I can find it as long as my hands are in the right place.

Considering every rant and post I type here is without looking at the keyboard. I consider myself an "advanced" typer. It comes pretty natural after 4+ years.....

Ok, I'm typing this here without looking at the keyboard. Three Mistakes.

Seems pretty common o.O

I like to type looking at the keyboard, because it's alot quicker. Though I'm alright at touch typing.

It's not a terribly hard feat to do, it's usually just the punctuation marks and the ones above the numbers that take the memorizing.

With all the time you guys spend on these forums, you still can't use keyboards? How pathetic. . . ;)

People get into bad habits that are hard to get out of. Take my right hand for example, my index and middle finger are the only ones that type in that hand.

Hmmm... I remember when I had a ghetto mouse. It only moved side to side and I had to manually take myself to teh top of the screen.

The keyboard is stupid-- I will explain why.

When the typewriter was orginally invented, all the keys were in ALPHABETICAL order-- that makes logical sense doesn't it? But people caught on too quickly and were soon typing so quickly that they JAMMED UP the typewriters!
(I know they are a thing of the past, but they work by extending a small metal lever with the letter of your choice engraved on it when you strike the appropiate key-- these levers were getting tangled because alot of the most frequently used keys were next to each other.)

So they did a brilliant thing...they changed the typewriter to QWERTY or whatever its called-- the modern set up of typewriters and keyboards. They changed the layout to make the most commonly used keys more accessible without jamming. Problem solved. Except now everyone needs typing lessons.

Now, as you may have noticed, computers do not jam up if you type too fast but everyone is still using the old style typing layout. The logical thing to do would be to put it back in Alphabetical Order. Then anyone with a basic knowledge of their ABC's could type as fast as a pro.

However, humans are notorious for keeping traditions around long after they have outlived their usefulness. And no one wants to be the one dealing with the changes in manufacturing and subsequent learning curve.

I type 95-100 WPM with a 2% error rate-- not from lessons but just using the damn thing so long that I know where most of these keys are blindfolded. The error actually comes from typing a bit too fast-- I sometimes double-tap or hit them in the wrong order or hit the space bar too soon so that wors d coem out leik thi s.

What is a person to do? Go back and proof your work, half of good writing is good editing.

The guy who first made the typewritter was the one that realized that having the more popular letters arranged near each other would jam the system up. The first patented typewritter used the QWERTY system, there wasnt any patented ones before it.

They actually do have alphabetized keyboards now. I tried one but im so used to the old one I couldnt use it.
