My friend said that Kazaa was being searched for on computers, and if they find you theyll make you pay 70 dollars per song.. I personally think this is a load of bullsh*t but I just want to be safe. So has anybody else heard of this?

No its worse then that if you get caught sharing music then you get sued for a big ass amount of money by your friendly assholes at the Music Ind.

I havent heard anything
It isn't safe to share music publically on places like KaZaA, anyway. And, purportedly, the RIAA is indeed starting to track KaZaA usage, and also tracking (through your own ISP) your upload bandwidth usage.

But isn't it illegal to search your computer without at least telling you or give out an alert or something? Also, can they charge you money for having Kazaa on your computer?
Search your computer? I could very easily get a list of every mp3 on your computer, at least the ones you're sharing them on KaZaA, without ever having to use illegal search methods. It's the equivalent to growing pot in your front yard.
KaZaA itself is not illegal.

yeah it isnt, they'd prolly have taken it off by now.
They tried. However, Sharman Networks is based outside of the United States' international jurisdiction zone.

Pfft, Metallica threatened the users of Napster the same things. They can't do it to this extent, several million users have Kazaa. Besides, I'm not stupid enough to SHARE files.
Ive heard it too, but off an unrealiable sorce.
The odds of them finding YOU as an individual must be about 1/10,000,000
Still, be careful, when I get a disk, im going to burn all my files onto it, delete them, etc so they cant be traced.
Hey, what if the american goverment is reading this right now.......
Hey, im not in america anyways......

your not were you live Geo
The RIAA is just trying to scare you. They'll only be going after people sharing like 193428951732452739845 mp3s. Most Kazaa users don't have 100.

I have over 1500 downloaded Mp3's
Yeah, their only lawsuits have been widespread, targeting users sharing more than 100,000 files over an insecure college network.

Kazaa won a lawsuit that was pitted against them and now is leageal and thats why they have to sue people....by they I mean the music Ind.

CH is right. They are going after the big things, not the little things
The RIAA is a legalist dinosaur that was made anachronistic by the advent of digital filesharing. There is no option to return the music industry to the state it was before p2p was invented, and any attempts to do so will end in utter failure.
They don't come into your house searching your computer, at least. They'd come to your house and try to sue you, but there's nothing to worry about there as like people have been saying, only people with a huge amount of mp3s on their comp..

You dont have to do that just completely remove kazaa, put all the files you want in a folder some where and then reinstall Kazaa lite instead. When it asks to share tell it to shre stuff in that shared folder only. I just share my music videos and all 13 episodes of Hellsing.

If you actually share files on kazaa, you're a fucking chump. Copy and paste them elsewhere and then delete the originals in your download folder. Kazaa is great for hentai manga, I wonder if they'll bother tracing that to my fucking computer? Oh, Secret Plot, I love you dearly.
Dude, there are much easier places to get hentai manga, like... er, I guess Exzee would frown on porn links.
Also, if you don't share your files SOMEWHERE you're a fag.
